Hi, it sometimes takes a while for your browser to pick up a new favicons... I can see it OK. Try clearing your cache - for firefox that's: "Tools" > "Clear private data" > check "Cache" > "Clear private data now". For IE use "Tools" > "internet options" > under "browsing history" click "Delete..." > "Delete files"

Hi Sannse.

I am one of three Bureaucrats from Bully Wiki.

The other two are Megabuster who requested and started the Wiki, and McJeff who I made into a Bureaucrat a month or so back.

We need a technical help.

1. We need the button "Save Page" (in Czech "Ulozit zmeny") to be active only after the unregistered user has filled the Summary field.

2. We need the setting in "My preferences/Editing/Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" (in Czech: "Nastavení/editovat/Upozornit") to be ticked (filled in with the check mark) by default for all registered Users. Which means that every new registered user will be prompted to fill in the Summary field. Any unregistered anonymous editor should be automatically prompted to fill in the Summary field as well.

If you are using the new editor then you can click on the template in Richard Tan, and you will see several fields to fill in. That should give you a good looking info box. What you are using at the moment is the code:

Which isn't set up on dewbackwing. What you need (if you use source mode to edit) is:

On the infobox, I used the new editor and not all of the info is showing. How do I set up an info box page, cause I do nto understand the pages I have read. I have what I think is one up, but I am not sure if it is even right, and that can be located at the following link Character Infobox. If is the menu to the far left where you can search for pages, but I figured out how to do it.

Infoboxes are not easy to create. It looks like you got the one you copied over to work in the end (from the deleted page) but I know they are tricky things. We are trying to improve the system to make them a lot easier. In the mean time, you might want to stick to using Template:Infobox, rather than the more complicated ones. It means you have to type in each title line (as in the example above) but it does mean it's easier to get everything in. I'm glad you found the menu part! -- sannse

Unfortunately, I really haven't been as attentive to that wikia as I needed to be, as Education is not one of my strong points. I came on board because there was a fair amount vandalism at the time. Since the last Bureaucrat left, and the remaining other active project left, Fasten has been doing the bulk of the activity. And he does know more about the subject than I do. I wouldn't consider this a problem at all :) it's really only "sockpuppeting" when people pretend that the second account isn't theirs. And as we can't currently change account names on Wikia, this is the only way to change your nick if you don't like it or make a mistake. As it's clearly marked that the other account is him, there is no deception involved and I'd say this is fine -- sannse

Although I can understand the reason, there's something that puzzles me. At least one wiki was created for an individual RuneScape Clan in the past: http://darkriders.wikia.com/wiki/

I'd just like to know why that wiki was created for an individual RuneScape Clan but my request for a wiki for my RuneScape clan was denied. I have been trying to contact the staff member that denied my request since the day it was denied, both via her talk page and email as well as the talk page for the request, but I have still received no response. I am posting this on your talk page in the hopes that I can get an answer.

Hi. Requests is something more of an art than a science... so sometimes we get things wrong, and sometimes the guidelines we work by change over time. In this case, we started the Darkriders Wikia in January 2008. By June, someone had requested a wiki for all Runescape clans, and we had seen that clan wikis tended not to grow well. So we started trying to see if it would work better to combine clans in one wiki, accepted the Runescape Clans wiki, and started asking new clan requests to go there.

It might turn out that this isn't the best solution. We are constantly talking about how to best choose the wikis we accept, and hope to have a new, improved, system next year (details once we work them out!). But one thing to remember, we can always split off content if it starts on a more general wiki and grows well. So a section on Runescape Clans could be a stand-alone wiki if it takes off :)

I was thinking about creating a bot for Custom Bionicles Wiki. The purpose of this bot would be to add a template to every page listed on Special:Wantedpages. The reason I need a bot to do this instead of a user is because there exactly 1000 pages listed there. Now, I'll probably have to create the bot framework after Christmas for personal reasons, but maybe I should start by creating the bot account?

Hello, on the Dutch RuneScape Wiki here we have created a template in the past and added auto-categorisation (this template). This template was then added to some pages. Later the autocategorisation was changed (category Armour instead of Equipment), but the pages which contain the template doesn't seem to change automatically, I have to open the edit window for these pages and then click save in order for the categories to change. So basically (sorry for the messy explanation) I was wondering if it's possible to automatically change the category of all pages containing a template, if the autocategorisation of this template is changed.

I was also wondering how you can make messages appear on the top of each page (for example: Help out this wikia as much as possible. There are plenty of things to do. Hi, there was a problem with this type of update over the holiday... usually the system puts such tasks in a queue to be worked on when traffic is low (it runs about midnight UTC). But it missed a few days, so there was a back-log. It looks to have cleared now, so all is well. Generally, you should expect unedited pages to update once a day... sometimes a bit longer if you have made a template change that affects a lot of pages. If it's longer, please let us know and we'll give the servers a bit of a kick ;)

You can put a message at the top of the page using MediaWiki:Sitenotice. Some wikis rather overuse this in my opinion, it's not good to push the content down any more than is necessary... but it's a handy way to talk to all users at once. -- sannse

There also seems to be an issue with our mainpage, where the sidebar (with search, categories, upload image, special pages) overlaps (hope that's a correct word in English) our Wiki image. Your site css is on a couple of different pages. For something like this, which doesn't depend on what skin people are viewing the site in, you should use MediaWiki:Common.css.

In case you need it later... if you are changing the general look of the default skin, then you will need MediaWiki:Monaco.css (see Help:Customizing Monaco for more on that) -- sannse

MediaWiki:Monaco.css will ONLY get used if the skin is set to Monaco->Custom

if you need to change something for ALL monaco themes, you will need to put it in MediaWiki:Common.css and prepend all your css rules with .wikiaSkinMonaco

On the bot... sorry for missing that. I'm confused as to why you would want to put a template on wanted pages. There will be more than 1000 (that's just the limit for listing, once the top ones are gone others will show) and the idea of the page is that it shows you what articles might be useful to add. If you create them with a template, then you won't have redlinks any more... and that means people will constantly be going to useless pages looking for content! The redlinks are useful, and the wanted pages list is just a tool to help you decide which to add content to first -- sannse

Some users who are fed up with Grawp are planning Police action that could stop him once and for all. See here on Palaeos.

Grawp is causing problems for many users and administrators on many wikis. It’s not good for him that he can get away with such actions as threatening to rape and murder people. It’s not good for those who read distressing material that Grawp has written. Most of those on the receiving end of such threats will know that he’s thousands of miles away and won’t harm them. Hi, it looks like you need to talk to him rather than block him. Are pages being copied from Wikipedia without credit? If so, you need to either remove them or give proper attribution. You've gone too far. I edit on the CPW. It's bad enough that every one there occasionally goes nuts and then bans everyone in sight for no reason. HappyFace414 was blocked as he is too young to be allowed to edit Wikia. See Angela's talk page on ClubPenguin for more. AgentGenius was blocked for spamming Wikia with a large number of duplicate emails. This is not acceptable behaviour. -- sannse

Sorry, I got the wikis confused. Angela explained the bans here. Our terms of use say that you need to be 13 or older to use Wikia, and Happyface isn't. I'm afraid there is nothing other than time that will change that -- sannse

Greetings, I'm Pfenner, a Nonciclopedia admin.

Occasionally we happen to receive legal threats involving our articles. The latest seems a serious one (although we are still not sure whether it is real). The point is, we (admins and community) have little knowledge on the subject of legal issues. All we want is to be able to deal with the next legal threat properly, so - if you don't mind - I have some questions for you:

In the terms of use there is this sentence: All legal action will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts in the state of California, USA. Does this apply only to direct legal threats to Wikia, or is really any legal action against the content of any site hosted by Wikia also included?
Are users individually responsible and liable for what they write? And are they supposed to "be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts in the state of California, USA." even if they are located outside the U.S. and the supposed offence in question has occurred outside the U.S.?
Could Wikia give us some form of legal assistance?
Who is, legally speaking, the target of a legal threat concerning an article? Is it the author? Is it the admins? Or is it the entire site?

Hi Pfenner, complicated questions :) Please remember in reading my answers that I am not a lawyer and cannot give legal advice.

Taking the last question first... any of those can be the target of a legal threat. Each of us is responsible for our own writings, and that should always be a consideration in what you put on the site. Admins are a bad target in most cases, they don't generally have any responsibility for the actions of others on the site. However, they do still have responsibility for their own actions (so, for example, if you were to replace a copyright violation and protect the page, that might be seen differently to you just not noticing a problem). And of course, Wikia has certain responsibilities - for example to remove content promptly if we get a proper take-down notice.

Going up the list... yes, Wikia is able to look at any threat and may be able to give assistance. For example, in a recent case on the English Uncyclopedia we got a lawyer's letter but felt that a page could clearly be defended as parody. So we got our lawyers to write to the complaining person's lawyers to say so. Of course it depends on the situation each time, and most complaints can be dealt with a lot more easily than that. But the option is there if we need it.

And for the first (last) question... this applies to any action taken against Wikia, relating to any site hosted by Wikia. But, of course, we would have no control over someone suing an English user in an English court over their actions on Wikia or any other site. That goes back to personal responsibility for your actions.

In general, I would say your first step is to look at any complaint with common sense and see if you can resolve the dispute. For example, if it's a page written by students calling their teacher names... do you really need it on the site? So a quick deletion and ban of any students replacing it should fix the problem. Copyright issues are easy too, another quick deletion should end any complaints. But if there are any complaints that worry you or you can't resolve, then I would recommend that you tell the person to contact community@wikia.com and the Community Team will help.

Thank you very much for the answers, they were useful. :) In this case the threat is against this article (a parody article of an animal rights association) and basically, it involves a supposed defamation, even if there is no real defamatory content in the article. [edit] Infobox help on Dewback Wing Wikia

I am trying to get another infobox to look right, but for osme reason, the text int he infobox is the same color as the background. It is located here and the infobox it I am using is Droid Infobox. Uberfuzzy helped me, but the box still in not working correctly. Can you possibly show me what I am doing wrong?

Just wanted to remind you of this discussion on asterisks messing up formatting on pages. We're still having this problem, the latest page is here. Please see previous discussion for other links to pages this has happened to. Do the techs know if this is being caused by the new WYSIWYG editor or something else?
