Intern for Wikia Gaming (San Francisco, CA)
Wikia Gaming is searching for a fall intern to help the gaming team get ready for all the big fall game releases. Duties will include content seeding, writing walk throughs, recruiting and mentoring new admins and noobs, and reaching out to game related fansites and forums to promote new wikis.
Benefits include getting a backstage pass to the inner-workings of Wikia, and the ability to help shape our seeding and promotional efforts. The internship will span the breadth of the gaming community, with a focus on console games (360,PS3,Wii,DS and PSP) and Fall 2008 releases.
The ideal candidate possesses thumb calluses from playing too many games, had a edit count of over 10,000 (but pretends not to know that), and is excited about the idea of seeing new wikis succeed! We're looking for someone who can commit to 15-20 hours/week. Hours are flexible. Work from home -- or, if you're nearby, you can work from our offices in San Francisco.
This is an unpaid position, though the position could lead to a more permanent role on the team.
Responsibilities
The position will involve working with the Marketing Manager to identify and build out target content areas. This will span the entire life-cycle of wikis ranging from seeding and content creation to improving mature communities.
For new wikis:
- Create content and structure
- Stay on top of current news as it relates to the gaming industry
- Reach out to external communities and fansites to achieve maximum reach for gaming communities
For existing wikis:
- Identify what's missing on the wiki, and figure out how to help
- Clean up content, organize main page, keep things consistent
- Restructure content
- Establish a good relationships with the existing admins, and help create a thriving community on their wiki
Qualifications
Candidates should have a strong history of contributions on Wikia -- especially creating pages and copy-editing. Admin experience preferred, but not required.

Advertising Sales (San Francisco, CA)

Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of selling and closing advertising deals.
- Leverage your existing contacts with agencies, pursue ‘warm’ in-bound leads, or ‘cold’ leads provided to you.
- Call new contacts on a daily basis.
- Complete RFP responses and proposals.
- Move each deal through the sales process and close the business.
- Input all sales information into Salesforce.com (training provided).
- Use DoubleClick’s DART ad server to look up and sell inventory.
- Help coordinate assets required to launch campaigns on time.
- Support the Vice President of Sales in building a successful advertising business.
Qualifications

- The ability to ASK good questions and LISTEN to what potential customers have to say.
- Excellent communication and verbal presentation skills.
- NO FEAR of cold-calling and doing what it takes to close a deal.

Entertainment Community Intern -- Location flexible within US
Wikia's Entertainment team is looking for an intern to work closely with members of Wikia's management team to create fabulous and well-organized Entertainment content. We're looking for people who love working on Entertainment wikis, and want to get more involved. The interns help to choose the Entertainment spotlights, looking ahead to figure out what the next big Entertainment wikis will be. The team rehabs dead wikis, builds up new wikis and educates admins on wiki tricks that help the sites to grow.
Interns get a look behind the scenes at Wikia, helping to determine the direction of our seeding and promotion. They work on lots of different Entertainment wikis, with a variety of topics and projects. Interns have helper access on all wikis, and have a deeper level of involvement than Wikia contributors usually have.
The Entertainment Community Intern is an unpaid position, though a stipend is available for the right candidate, and the position could lead to a more permanent role on the team.
We're looking for 10-25 hours/week from people who love writing and building wikis. Hours are flexible. Work from home -- or, if you're nearby, you can work from our offices in San Francisco.

Community Development Associate (San Francisco, CA)

Responsibilities
- Help new and existing communities grow by contributing content, offering advice to the wiki founder and welcoming new contributors.
- Assisting users and responding to their questions via email, CSR ticketing systems, wiki talk pages and chat programs.
- Helping users with editing their wikis (i.e. creating templates and tables, and setting up category structures).
- Responding to requests for new wikis and creating them as needed.
- Testing new features and creating corresponding help pages and tutorials.
- Forwarding user comments, requests, and bug reports to the appropriate team.
Ideal Candidate
- Has excellent writing skills and can communicate proactively with others in friendly and simple terms.
